It looks like a unicorn face. I’m so excited because I love unicorns.
So today, we’re going to make a magical unicorn cake!. Let’s start!. The recipe we are making today is a Funfetti cake from scratch. The things you need are :
2 cups of all-purpose flour
1½ cups of sugar
1 stalk of salted butter, you’ll want it at room temperature, Large proteins
¾ cup of whole milk
¼ cup shortening
¼ teaspoon almond extract
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons baking powder

And ¼ cup of rainbow sprinkles

Now we leave it all together!. The first step is beating our dry ingredients together in a medium-sized bowl. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Then beat until well combined and on the way to the side. Next, in a large bowl, cream together your butter, shorten, and sugar. * Clinks glass * Get off! All right. Then, using an electric hand mixer, mix until it is light and airy. I want to start at low speed and work my way to a medium.
Now, add in your proteins, one by one. I have them all together in a bowl, so just eyeball it. Gloop! Then mix them up, add the next egg. Mix it up, next to egg, mix it up, next to egg, mix it up. And as the last egg, mix it up. And don’t forget to scrape along the sides. Now, add in your extracts. Vanilla and almond. And, again, mix it up. This smells so good! Ohh!.
We have our wet mixture, dry mixture, and milk. Now alternately add your dry mixture and the milk, the wet. Add a third of the dry. Mix it!. Half of the milk. Mix it!. Second third of the dry. Mix it!. Loads of milk. Mix it!. Burden of the dry. Mix it!. Don’t forget to scrape along the sides. Our batter is almost ready, but we have not yet added the magic!. We sprinkled some rainbow to make this a real Funfetti cake!.

Then fold with a spatula, You do not want to use the electric mixer because it will break your sprinkles, they are a bit delicate!. It’s a cake party, but we have to be careful. Look at that cake batter!. That’s nice! That’s what Funfetti is. It smells delicious!. Now, evenly divide the batter between 3 cake pans. I use 6 “round circle cake pans,. greased and lined with a piece of baking paper on the bottom to make it easier to remove the cake. Cakes are ready for baking!
Preheat the oven to 350 ° C and bake for about 30-35 minutes. Keep your eyes on the cake while they bake. Once the top turns a golden brown, it might be a good idea to poke with a cake tester,. Or, if you don’t have a cake tester, you can use a toothpick. Simply place in the toothpick,. or the cake tester, then when you pull it out, and there is no batter to hold, the cake is ready. Once your cakes have baked, give them enough time to cool.
More than here, I leveled them. You can use a cake leveler like me or a sharp knife. Now it’s time to assemble our cake!. For me, I have a little cake plate, and a turntable. * Table spins *. … to make glaze a little easier!. Take the first layer. Put it down!. In a piping bag, I scooped in some vanilla buttercream frostings. I would like to pipe an overview all the way around. Then fill it in!. And using a compensation spatula, smooth it out. Now add the next layer, and cover with enamel, just like we did before.

Take a look at all that Funfetti unicorn cake!. Now for our top layer, remember this super cool trick. You are going to flip your cake upside down, So the bottom of the cake is actually on top!. Frost the entire cake, starting at the top, then work your way around the sides. Once you have piped icing from the bottom to the top of the cake, take out a large compensation spatula. Press gently against the cake as you turn the turntable. To make the glaze very smooth, you may need to turn it around a few times. Once you’ve smoothed the sides, the last thing I want to do is take your spatula, and bring in the top.
Work your way all the way around. After icing the cake, I put it on a cake. If you don’t have a cake stand, place your cake on what you want it to serve. A tray, a cake plate, which you have to hand. I like this one because it was light blue. And I put it back on top of a turntable. The next step is to add a number of decorations. With a bunch of different colored buttercream icing that I am here,. we are going to pipe a bunch of these, over the top. And cascading down to make the side look like the moons of a unicorn. * Lip claps.
I have painted the glazes light purple, pink, dark purple and blue. Kind of a pastel blend. I thought these colors together would look good,. but you can use any color that you want. I’m going to start with piping rosettes with my light purple and pink. Both have an open star tip. This is a # 824. A rosette looks a bit like a rose. You start on the inside, and work your way up. I’m always scared the enamel’s gonna just jump out on my hair. Same with the pink. Around, and a lift. Now, I am using the light pink, and a darker pastel purple, french tips.
These are # 4B. Pipe few dollops inbetween the rosettes. Last but not least, our dark pastel purple and blue, pipe some kisses. The tips at the end of these are around circles, a # 2A. Pinch down, apply pressure, and then pull up so that it looks like Kiss is a bit Hershey’s. Boop! I don’t know why the noise helps, but it does! Helps me. Got our magical unicorn mane background music. Now it’s time to pipe on the eyes. More than here, in a small piping bag I have a number of black icing, with a number of 4 tips. I stick to my eye very simple, through pipes 2 arches, with some small eyelashes, but you can pipe any design you want.

Our unicorn cake is almost ready, but it is not a unicorn without a horn!. So pop the cake in the fridge while we work on making our latest decorations, the unicorn horn, and ears. The first step is making the ears. For me, I have stuck a piece of wax paper, so that the fondant will not stick to the surface. And I got a little powdered sugar. I’m going to sprinkle a little down on top of the wax paper. Spread it around, break a little white marshmallow fondant and roll it flat. I have a tear and a smaller teardrop cookie cutter. Cut 2 each. I’m also taking a little dab of water.
The water helps the fondant stick together. It works as an adhesive. Then, to get the shape of the ears, let them dry on top of something rounded. I’m just going to use my fondant rolling pin, but you can also use a whisk or another rolling pin. To make our unicorn horn, I rolled out a tapered rope from fondant. It is thinner on one side, thicker on the other.
I would like to use a long lollipop stick, but if you don’t have one of these at home, you can also use a wooden skewer. Take a small brush, get some water at the end, and paint your lollipop stick. This will help confirm the fondant. Now, turn the fondant around the lolly stick, to create a little unicorn horn!. It looks a bit like one of those unicorn lollipops that you see in Disneyland, and they are all rainbowed and delicious!.

This is what the handset looks like. I have some space from the lollipop stick in the bottom left corner, so you can stick it in the cake. Now let it sit for 10-30 minutes to cure. Last step to making our fondant decorations, we are going to paint them gold!. More than here, I have some gold edible highlighter fabric. A little goes a long way. You don’t have to use too much. Pour a little into a small bowl .
Then I am adding some almond extract so that when we paint it, it won’t be pork belly. You can actually use a clear alcohol. Look how beautiful that is!. Move the gold around. I want to paint a liner with this! This is so beautiful!. Now, paint the inner ear, and the whole horn gold!. Just took the cake out of the fridge, it’s cooled. Now is the last decoration step. Add our horn and ears. Here is the unicorn cake that we made today with a homemade Funfetti recipe.
